UN women peacekeepers arrive in Liberia

MONROVIA, Liberia - The United Nation's first women-only peacekeeping contingent — made up about 100 Indian policewomen — arrived in Liberia Tuesday, officials said.

Ben Malor, spokesman for the UN's 15,000-strong peacekeeping force in the West African country, said the force will be stationed in the capital.

Women have served in many UN peacekeeping forces, but this is the first women-only group. Members of the group have said they hope their unit will be seen as more approachable by women and children in conflict zones.

Last year relief groups in Liberia accused UN peacekeepers and aid workers of trading food for sex with girls left homeless by war. The United Nations has since instituted strong policies to prevent sexual exploitation in the country.

About 20 men were accompanying the group of 103 women to provide logistical support, according to a UN statement.

About 200,000 Liberians are believed to have been killed in the 1989-2003 civil war, which also displaced half the country's 3 million people. The country — created to settle freed American slaves in 1847 — is still struggling to recover.

The UN peacekeeping mission has been present in Liberia since a 2003 peace deal ended the fighting.

I Have a Dream Project - Daniel Stringer

I found this video at youtube.com and I was glad to hear Daniel as he speaks about his dream. I believe, all of us have similar dreams of what he has. And I wish we wont stop dreaming, for when we dream, we keep the faith and the hope alive. And I wish that all of us would work together to make this dream come true. Dream and work harder to realize it all. Someday, you will reach what you're dreaming for.

Great news! The Children's Medical Center of Dayton received an awesome $500,000 commitment from one of its fund raising organizations. Wohoooo. This is so great. I am sure the money will helps lots of in need children.

The group, Terrific Women in Giving, a volunteer auxiliary organization that raises money for Children's Medical Center, made the three-year pledge. Bless you guys! you truly are terrific. They're supporting the establishment of a nursing excellence endowment fund and to purchase patient monitors for the general pediatric unit. The pediatric unit will be undergoing a renovation and is expected to be completed this year. They also recently presented a $228,500 check to complete a previous $500,000 pledge to the hospital. I hope more wonderful group like this will be born to help those in need. More power to the group! Great job!

China aims to bring peace through deals with dictators and warlords

Ah! I love people who seeks world peace just like President Hu Jintao. He began an eight-nation tour of Africa yesterday, seeking to reaffirm China’s commitment to the continent. In his 12-day visit, he is expected to announce new and good investment that is worth billions of dollars. He is also expected to follow through on promises of aid. Cool! I hope he really will. This will be a great help for Africa. If you want to learn more about this good news, visit http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,3-2575808,00.html

Spread love everyone!

Bond of friendships

Friendship is a very important relationship. It may lead to a more positive and blooming one and it may lead to destruction. I learned from Hindustan Times that on January 29, 1992, Israel established a diplomatic relations with India and this week marks the 15th anniversary of this historic milestone in Israel’s journey to build close associations with Asian people. This was the vision of the founders of the State of Israel. Like anyone who wants good friendships, Israel attaches great importance to its relationship with India, which is really cool. It is pursuing them with a view to cementing long-term cooperation in every sphere. I say long live to friendship! You can read the full story about this at http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/181_1915851,00120003.htm.

Good luck to them. Happy Friendship Everyone!

Daring Subway Track Rescue

Have you heard about the heroic act of Mr. Wesley Autrey? Actually this news were in the tv and journals, almost everyone talks about him and even President Bush mentioned his heroic act during his state of the union address.

The story about Wesley Autrey, a Harlem construction worker, was truly heroic, he jumped into the subway track, New York, afternoon of January 2, 2007 to save a stranger. It really take some guts for him to leave his two young daughters at the side and jump in front of a moving train to risk his life. He bravely jumped on the body of a 20-year-old man who had accidentally fallen onto the tracks, pressing them both into a foot-deep space underneath the wheels of the train. Luckily, they were both safe.

Photographs of Autrey (check out how dirty his cap is from the tracks!) and his daughters, 6 year old Shuqui and 4 year old Syshe, by Juliet Papa of 1010WINS; graphic of the subway tracks from the Daily News

If you were Mr. Wesley Autrey? Will you do the same?????

start loving

This is my first post for this blog and I want to say thank you for visiting my blog. I hope that you will come back here often as I will be posting news and stories that would reflect loving and caring for one another. I am just a simple person, ordinary individual like most of us but I am hoping that in one way or another I could touch your hearts to remind you that there is still hope, that we can build a loving world, where love, empathy and respect prevails. A world that do not see colors, do not judge race or ethnic background, a world where we all are equals as human beings that have heart that can be hurt, have families and friends that we care about, that like everyone else, have needs to survive. We can still build a better world, for us and for our children, and for our children's children. It has been said, that peace starts from within. So have peace with yourself and then share that peace and that angel within your heart to everyone else around you. Let us be friends and share the love we all deserve.

I myself wish to gain more friends from every country of the world and may all of us be happy and peaceful in our life. I hope this blog will be an instrument to meet new friends, and we all share the joy and the HOPE for a better tomorrow. Thanks everyone!
