My father is getting older and he’s no longer able to manage things on his own like he once was. It’s strange that I am at the point in my life where I’m going to begin caring for my father, who has always been my caregiver. My father still works part-time, but I can tell that his age is really starting to affect his energy as well as the way he thinks and processes things. I’ve begun to start helping him around the house, cleaning, grocery shopping and cooking when I have the time. I know that my dad is having a hard time letting go of some of his responsibilities. He’s having an even harder time letting me take them over. I’ve discovered that if I make everything out like he’s going to get a deal if I do it, it comes off a little easier. For example, when I took over grocery shopping, I convinced him that I had a really great couponing method that I wanted to try. When I wanted to begin taking over some of his bills, I took him on www.CableTVAdvisor.com and we worked together to pick out the package that best suited his needs. We’re going to keep working to move from independence to dependence. I’m glad that dad is learning to trust me more.
